On-Site Massage / Seated Acupressure

The concept of on-site massage was born in the United States in 1984 when David Palmer  began giving clothed 15-minute treatments of the back neck and shoulders to employees at Apple Computers in Silicon Valley. Such was the success of his venture he went on to design a special folding portable massage chair on which to give these sessions. The chair enabled a better and far more effective treatment to be given, by providing total, comfortable support for the client.

OSM reached the UK in 1989 and has enjoyed enormous popularity, there are several reasons, but first and foremost - it works!

The health promoting , stress relieving and enjoyable benefits of massage have been known for thousands of years and this versatile form now allows thousands of people to experience it for themselves. Reservations people may have with regards to removing their clothes, going to a strange location, cost and time commitment are all negated. It presents massage to clients on their terms in their own environment.

The on-site massage sequence is based on a traditional form of Japanese massage called Anma. It was first introduced to Japan approximately 1500 years ago from China, where records of its existence go back even earlier in history, to some 3000 years BC.

Anma translates from Japanese as 'press and rub' - hence 'massage' and this style of treatment has been passed down through the generations, family to family, healer to healer.

The sequence or KATA practised is a 20 minute, self -contained, choreographed, highly effective series of movements or 'dance'. This helps to balance the flow of energy or Qi through the body by the practitioner stimulating acupressure points on the 12 major meridians.

The KATA takes place on the upper body, and it's intention is to promote a sense of well-being. It is not primarily a corrective treatment but more of a 'tune up' and when performed regularly it allows the individual to feel and perform at their best.
